Locals know Golestan Palace as the jewel of the Qajar dynasty, but it’s so much more! The 450-year-old palace has gone from being a simple lodging to being home to royal families, one after the other.
In this experience, we’ll visit the palace’s major halls, mansions, and museums. We admire the height and glory of Shamsol Emareh (the highest building of its own time) while imagining the former brilliance of Takht-e Marmar (the marble throne).
Since Golestan Palace was home to the many monarchs of Iran, each of its halls and mansions is a museum in its own right, reflecting the prestige of its royal owners. One of our most memorable stops of the day will be the mirror hall, which is covered with tiny shards of mirrors, giving it a dazzling glow.
We’ll also visit several of the mansion-museums of the palace that showcase many antique remains from portraits, to gifts, to dishes, and to realistic wax figures, along with the everyday item used by the royal family.
The garden of this elegant palace merits its own attention, so we’ll also spend some time relaxing by its pool, taking pictures of the colorful exterior decorations and tile art of the mansions, and enjoying a refreshing drink in its traditional café.
